Erik Churchill

Erik utilizes his background in architecture, consutruction and business to challenge BLDGWORKS and individual projects to push the boundaries of design, sustainability, and traditional AEC practice.

Previous to fuonding BLDGWORKS, Erik was a Senior Project Manager at SHoP Construction where he managed client communications, A&E consultants, BIM/VDC integration and SHoP project teams. Erik specialized in managing the design process on projects that used advanced methods of construction such as pre-fabrication. As an author, he has written on the changing roles of architects, publishing “Re-Negotiating Architects’ Relevancy - A U.S. Perspective of IPD and BIM.”

Erik has also managed the design and build of single family homes including two of the first in the LEED-H program. As a consultant he has worked with Clif Bar on sustainable packaging initiatives, Gerding Edlen Developers in Portland, OR on financing Living Building Challenge projects and with Gehry Technologies in Paris on technology development. At the University of Oregon, he developed the community design-build program, designBridge, into a nationally recognized program. Erik received a BA from Brown University, a Master of Architecture and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Oregon. He is a registered architect in the state of New York.

Vail specializes in the use of advanced technologies for project delivery. Most recently he was a senior associate and BIM implementation manager at SHoP Architects where he worked with A/Es, general contractor/sub-contractor teams, and clients to develop mutually beneficial BIM strategies.

During his time at SHoP Vail lead a major research and development project for the Department of State and Overseas Buildings Operations to fully utilize the benefits of BIM, QTO, and virtual reality in their project delivery methods. He also designed and lead R&D efforts at SHoP to enable the use of cloud based BIM technologies and parametric modeling office wide.
Previous to SHoP, Vail was a design technology leader at world renown offices such as Perkins+Will, Pelli Clarke Pelli, and KPF. He has worked from concept design to construction documentation on many large domestic and international projects. Vail received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University at Buffalo as well as a Masters of Architecture from the advanced placement program at Parsons The New School for Design.

Virtual Project Controls (VPC) Engineer

BIM Analyst is a junior position to help implement virtual projects controls with a large corporate client engaged in a large portfolio of work around the world. In this role a BIM Analyst would engage with design and construction Building Information Models to enable QTO and cost analysis. This role is an opportunity for any member of the Architect / Engineer / Construction community with an interest in BIM (3D,4D,5D modeling) to fully engage and explore these methods of documentation. We are looking for a highly motivated person, to become involved in other aspects of our growing firm. The role requires high flexibility, ambition, an entrepreneurial attitude, and a dedication to taking personal responsibility for results. Regular travel is expected.

Experience

Degree in architecture, engineering, construction, project controls, or related fields required
0-3 years experience with BIM platforms (primarily Revit)
Interest in project controls, QTO, and cost analysis

Exhibition of leadership skills
Ability to think creatively and strategically to develop solutions

Technology Experience and Proficiency

Experience with Revit highly preferred
Experience with Dynamo a plus but not required
Experience with Python scripting a plus but not required
Experience with Revit API a plus but not required
