A full gut renovation includes a 900 SF addition to the existing home designed. The old and the new are deftly woven together though the use of a warm and rich material palette and minimalist detailing to create a vocabulary that feels contemporary, exciting and familiar.

Built from birch plywood, each piece of the wrapper was cut using a CNC machine and then glued into sections. Taking advantage of machining to cut each piece uniquely, the joints knuckle and weave to create a signature look reflective of the construction process and materials.

Custom ceramic tiles in the kitchen are designed with subtle variation to each tile, an intended result of the handmade process, and selected glaze to reflect light and create a composition that is both simple and singular.

To create the double taper a series of jigs were digitally designed that would allow sections of timber to be fed through a portable sawmill. High tech design matched with low tech execution.
